The Mar Menor

The Mar Menor, just 20 minutes drive from our penthouses, is a salty lagoon separated from the Mediterranean Sea by a 20km sand bar.  With a coastal length of 70km and its warm, shallow waters, the Mar Menor boasts glorious beaches and some of the best water sports facilities in the world.  The gently shelving beaches and maximum depth of 7m (22 feet) make the Mar Menor ideal for swimmers, as well as a variety of water sports.

There are many excellent beaches around the Mar Menor, including the following with approximate driving times from La Torre indicated:

  • Los Alcazares beach on the shore of the Mar Menor (15 minutes drive from La Torre). Los Alcazares is the largest resort town on the Mar Menor with a promenade more than 4km long.
  • San Pedro del Pinatar on the shore of the Mar Menor (20 mins)
  • Santiago de la Ribera (15 mins)
  • Cabo de Palos (Levante beach) near La Manga strip (45 mins)
  • La Manga Strip with the Mediterranean on one side and the Mar Menor on the other (45 mins)
  • La Azohia near Puerto de Mazarron (40 mins)
  • Puerto de Mazarron (40 mins)
